  • Capital BlueCross Contributes $33,000 to Building 21 in the Allentown School District through EITC Program

Harrisburg, Pa. – Capital BlueCross today announced the company has contributed $33,000 to Building 21 in the Allentown School District through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. The program is a state tax-credit program that provides companies with a 90 percent tax credit for donations to a nonprofit scholarship or educational improvement organization.

“At Capital BlueCross, we are proud to be an active community partner and strongly believe in giving back to the communities we serve. Bolstering education and helping children thrive in school builds a foundation for a healthy community,” said Gary D. St. Hilaire, president and CEO of Capital BlueCross. “Everyone is a winner when we support our educational system.”

Building 21 opened its career and college oriented high school in Allentown in December of 2015. The education nonprofit is based in Philadelphia. The learning model allows students to find their passions, learn at their own pace and engage through business and community partnerships to develop and apply their skills in real-world environments.

“Building 21 Allentown is grateful for Capital BlueCross’ commitment to our school,” said Jose Rosado, Jr., school leader at Building 21 Allentown. “In addition to financial support, we are also thankful for the active participation of Capital BlueCross vice president Anne Baum in her role as a member of our executive committee and a visible community ambassador as we work to launch the Allentown School District’s third high school.”

Capital BlueCross donates time, resources, and financial support to organizations that improve local communities throughout its 21-county Pennsylvania service area. Specific areas of focus are health and well-being, education, arts and culture, and community-corporate citizenship.
