Community health plan will continue to offer coverage on the Marketplace, full range of consumer products off the Marketplace
Harrisburg - Capital BlueCross today reaffirmed its commitment to offering health insurance products to individual consumers on the Federally Facilitated Marketplace in 2017. Due to market changes brought about by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and competitor dynamics, the company must necessarily reduce the number of plans available.
“Capital BlueCross’ top priority is the health and well-being of our customers and community. While dedicated to providing choice and access to consumers in our 21 county service area, Capital BlueCross must also remain competitive in today’s complex health care landscape,” said Debbie Rittenour, senior vice president, Government Programs. “Extensive changes in the health care industry brought about by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the changing competitive landscape have created instability. In turn, this has placed difficult financial burdens on consumers and created challenges for the long-term financial sustainability of many consumer products. Reducing the number of individual products we will offer on the Federally Facilitated Marketplace for 2017 will help ensure we can fulfill our long-term commitment to offering individual products that provide access to quality health care for years to come.”
The open enrollment period to choose an individual plan for 2017 starts Nov.1 and ends Dec.15 for coverage effective Jan.1, 2017.
