  • Capital BlueCross Contributes $90,000 to Joshua Group in Harrisburg through EITC Program

Harrisburg, Pa. – Capital BlueCross and its family of companies today announced a contribution of $90,000 to Joshua Group in Harrisburg through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. The program is a state tax-credit program that provides companies with a 90 percent tax credit for donations to a nonprofit scholarship or educational improvement organization.

“As a locally-based health insurer, Capital BlueCross has a strong commitment to the communities we serve. We are an active community partner and we believe that supporting education is key to promoting good health,” said Gary D. St. Hilaire, president and CEO of Capital BlueCross. “Everyone is a winner when we support education. We are proud to contribute to Joshua Group and the important work they do to help children in Harrisburg learn and live healthy.”

Joshua Group serves more than 200 residents from Harrisburg’s Allison Hill neighborhood who participate in “childhood to career” educational programs.

Learning opportunities include after-school programs, K-12 scholarships, summer learning and pre-K programs. Joshua Group also offers a resource center for high school dropouts and adults who are struggling to complete their education and find self-sustaining employment.

“Thanks to this generous donation from Capital BlueCross, 50 children between the ages of 3-5 from low-income families in Harrisburg are getting a chance to have a comprehensive early childhood learning experience,” said Kirk Hallet, founder and director of Joshua Group. “This is an important educational experience, at a critical age of development that would otherwise not be available.”

Capital BlueCross donates time, resources and financial support to organizations that improve local communities throughout its 21-county Pennsylvania service area. Specific areas of focus are health and well-being, education, arts and culture, and community-corporate citizenship.
