Four Things You Get from Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare Annual Enrollment Period |
... That You Don’t Get from Original Medicare in Pennsylvania
During Medicare enrollment, from October 15 to December 7, it’s important to know what you’re buying. A question Medicare customers frequently ask is “What does Medicare Advantage give me that I don’t already get from my Original Medicare?” The answer is, surprisingly, quite a lot!
Original Medicare comes to you directly from the government, and includes Part A (hospital coverage) and Part B (medical coverage). While you typically don’t pay a separate premium for Part A, you do pay a monthly premium for Part B, which may be deducted automatically from your Social Security benefits.
Medicare Advantage is an alternative to Original Medicare and is also known as Part C coverage. It's usually offered privately through major health insurance companies, like Capital BlueCross’ BlueJourney plans. They cover everything Part A and Part B cover, with or without hospice care, and usually much more.
So what do you get?
- Hospital coverage (Part A)
- Medical coverage (Part B)
- Prescription coverage (Part D)
- Vision benefits
- Dental benefits
- And more perks to help you live healthy
While that sounds like a lot of coverage, Medicare Advantage plans are usually low- or no-cost! The best way to see if Medicare Advantage is right for you is to compare plans and get a quote.
