Capital BlueCross Connect and its Healthy You Café in Enola are teaming up to provide free meals to first responders who continue to battle on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the next two Fridays – Aug. 21 and 28 – uniformed first responders – including police, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and sheriff’s deputies – or non-uniformed first responders with proper identification can visit the café at 4500 Marketplace Way, Enola, and pick up a free lunch courtesy of the café and Capital BlueCross Connect. The meals will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“These people are on the front lines of this fight, and this fight isn’t over,” said Mike Crnovic, director of retail services in the Enterprise Marketing department at Capital BlueCross. “If your job is to sometimes put yourself in the path of this virus whether it’s to confront a criminal, put out a fire, or give aid to an injured or sick person, then you deserve a bit of a break sometimes and a good, healthy meal. That’s what this is all about.”
The food for first responders program is part of Capital BlueCross’ expanded effort to support food banks and other community organizations, as well as to provide meals to healthcare workers, first responders, and nursing home staff, and residents.
Since March, Capital BlueCross and the Healthy You Café have teamed up to deliver nearly 7,000 healthy snacks, lunches, and other treats to hospitals, nursing homes, and offices in nearly a dozen central Pennsylvania counties.
The Healthy You Café, which uses locally sourced, fresh ingredients, and home-style food preparation, is housed inside the Capital BlueCross Connect health and wellness center in Enola. It reopened in June for limited inside and outside dining and continues to offer curbside pickup and full catering operations.
The Capital BlueCross Connect health and wellness center also reopened for in-person, appointment-only health plan consultations, biometric screenings, and in-person health coaching.
